RPO Chestertons (Knightsbridge) offer: Bringuier conducts Scheherazade
Tuesday 5 February 2019, 7.30pm, Royal Festival Hall
Love, stories and fairy tales have long served as an inspiration to composers, and in this concert Lionel Bringuier conducts three of the most beautiful of such inspirations.
The concert opens with Nicolai’s Merry Wives of Windsor Overture, inspired by Shakespeare’s comedy, its immediate success has gained it a concert life of its own.
Brimming with wonderful tunes and strongly characterful motifs, Dvořák’s Cello Concerto opened up a world of new possibilities for the solo cello.
Rounding out the concert with a musical flourish, Bringuier brings to life the alluring stories of Arabian Nights in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade.
